WILL DREDGING BE THE PARKING LOT FIASCO ON STEROIDS?

After hearing the Directors talk about the dredging, one may wonder if it will end up being far worse than the parking lot fiasco.
Eight years Directors have been dealing with this dredging issue and owners recently heard a Director say four Board members now want to push a two year old dredging bid down the throats of owners. Shouldn’t that have sent up a few flags, especially when it’s been very hazy as to what’s been changed from the original bid that two years ago cost owners $832,290?
Shouldn’t more flags go up when a Director recently said with certainty that dredging will now cost $1 million and another Director says this $1 million won’t solve the dredging problems most canal owners are experiencing?
Finally, shouldn’t one just forget the flags and set off sirens when hearing the four Directors who wish to ramrod the old bid through won’t allow a fresh bid to be submitted by a local dredging company that’s indicated it could do the same job for $500,000 and individually solve this problem most canal owners have?
One Director pushed back the above by saying this bid by Derrick Construction and its contract has been approved by the Board, but when looking at the Minutes, they show on July 23, 2014 that the Board approved to accept Belaire Engineering’s choice (Derrick Construction) for the dredging project but said  the contract will follow when a start date is determined. So it would seem that no Derrick contract has been formally approved..
Another push back was that the Board has to honor a verbal contract the Board made with Derrick Construction or face possible litigation. Well it seems that Derrick Construction has altered what seems a two year verbal contract and what financial damage can Derrick Construction demonstrate to a court when a start date has never been given?
One needs to ask if a different company can actually save over $300,000 and do more wouldn’t it be worth the risk of possible litigation? There seems that four Directors don't want to bother and even after Director Champion’s forced removal, there still seems to be three Directors left who do want to bother and think it’s in the owner’s best interest is to get two fresh bids. I for one don’t want to flush nearly a $1000 of my money down the toilet, do you?
This dredging event has been scheduled to happen at next Wednesday’s Regular Meeting.

Great article Joey, and so true! It's all very confusing....in the June BOD meeting the BOD voted unanimously to have Director Champion head up a committee to revisit dredging contractors. He and Director Waller did as requested and found another company that would do it for about $300,000 less. They brought the company spokesman into the September BOD meeting to make a presentation and the Pres. would not allow him to speak.

What is wrong with this BOD? They certainly don't have our best interest in mind! Why in the world would they force us to go with a million dollar dredger that wont work with individual owners & wont do us any good when we could spend a lot less and get so much more? At the end of "this" expensive fiasco we'll probably get sued again because we still can't get our boats down the canals.

Who are the BOD members that support this million dollar mistake? I want their names so I can campaign against them if they ever decide to run for the BOD again!!

Isn't true that an Environmental Study is required before the dredging start? How polluted are (or not) the canals?
Or no study is required? if it is... why it hasn't been done?
They have never bee TRULY clean before...

BOD there is no No leadership as mentioned before... and the bickering...what gives?

Thanks for the link, it seems in theory this dredging think could take years.
And as far as the New BOD composition it seems is "Back to the Future' ... (Same problematic people or previously removed are back... Good Grief!)
same people that got the Park where it is...
And call me crazy but it seems half the Park is for sale and more properties coming up for sale weekly...
Think about: Supply and Demand.

Prophetic words Anon:

Sea Cottage rumored (Good source) to have sold this week for only 150k.

Is it true that there is no formal Written contract with the dredging company? How many companies placed a bid?

Does LIV needs another parking lot doomsday? (Issue now swept under the rug by current BOD/Directors)
