IMPORTANT BOARD LETTER
I am addressing this letter to the entire Long Island Village Board.
As Chairman of the 2015 Election Committee I would
like to ask the Board to create a committee to address the on-going "owner participation" problem that plagues us at every election. The goal of this "special Committee" will be to increase owner participation and cut administrative costs for the 2016 Election. Since we only have 8 months before the next election gets started the Committee has come up with a few ideas and suggestions to get the ball rolling. This is only a brief outline of our insights. Ideally we would like to confer with one or two Board members before the April Board meeting addresses our request for a committee.
First, there are several changes we can make to the Election Packet that is traditionally mailed to every lot owner. The changes we have proposed will make the packet smaller and easier to understand. These ideas will also lower the mailing costs and hopefully increase owner participation.
Second, we should keep up with technology and determine a way to email packets to Owners willing to receive them in that format.
Finally, we need to make it easier for prospective candidates to qualify to run. Since a huge percentage of our Village is made up of Winter Texans, International owners and Valley non-retirees, we should have technology available that will allow Board Members to attend meetings remotely.
The 2015 Committee understands that some of these ideas must be presented to our lawyer before they can be implemented. That is why is important to address these changes now. I will be happy to meet with any Board member or Owner that has questions or input to set these wheels into motion.
Please contact me, Kay Sullivan, to set up a meeting.
Respectfully,
Kay Sullivan
