HAVE A SUGGESTION?

Everyone reading this blog should send this link to 10 others and ask them to check it out and participate and send it on to 10 others and so on.Let's demand NO scheduled activities on BOD meeting day, this already is true for pool and exercise classes and encourage all owners to attend meetings and become community activists.

Since when did they discontinue water exercise class on Wed. And ladies golf is on Wed. mornings. You just have to set your priorities. As far as golf, play two times a month and attend meetings two times a month no big deal.

Anonymous said...

You and Mayor Bloomberg need to stop trying to dictate what other people should do.

Forever! Read your schedule of activities. Ladies golf has been changed (until a vote of the golfing women in October) to Tuesday, hopefully it will be the owners only since the renters can't attend the meetings anyway (renters are also not on the golf committee or able to vote on any other issues for the operation of this community), ownership has some perks. Many hope it will continue as long as BOD meetings are on Wed. morning. Many women who use to golf on Wed now attend the meetings, we need to be present to witness and be involved. Here's the deal with the ONLY scheduled woman's golf event on a Wed at 9: for many women this is the only golf event they feel comfortable playing in and the change to Tuesdays is just FAIR. When it is easy to have women's golf on a Tues( and the course it less used as many men play at outside courses) why not do that so as NOT to conflict with the twice monthly BOD meetings? As to setting priorities, the few who want it on Wed are those who want to go to swim class(SINCE THOSE DO NOT MEET ON WED). Those who want it changed do so to stay active in the community by attending BOD meetings, not attending a pool class-the pool is opened ALL day!So it seems the PRIORITY should be, as with other events, do not schedule them on a Wed morning. Doesn't that seem fair?

The notice to the Newsletter on the San Antonio Riverwalk tour will not appear until the August issue.
There is an early September deadline, for registration and initial payment, to enable Main Floor seating at the Theatre so I am asking all's indulgence to allow me to reach a large number of folks earlier than the Newsletter thru the Blog.
Many are familiar with the trip from last year, this year some changes: 1. River cruise is the whole, open section to the Pearl Brewery, Thru the Locks and seeing the lit Sunfish under I-35. Double the lites on trees & trunks.
2. Theatre is "Peter Pan" with Cathy Rigby, Olympic Gold Medalist in Gymnastics in the lead.
3. Trolley tour of S.A. with hop-off/hop-on priviledges.
4.Buffet lunch at Menger Hotel.
5.Bus pickup at LIV included.
ALL for 249.00 per person with DOUBLE occupancy (You need a "roomie")498.00 per couple
Contact Rick Contos at 956-943-2462, rxrn2@aol.com,we are 1/2 full for the 50 bus seats and Sept. 10th is coming up fast.
Thank You

What are the dates of the trip? Sounds great!

Anonymous said...

OOOOOOPPPPPPS! I goofed. Dates are 12/4-5-6 and we leave here early morning the 4th and return late p.m. ont the 6th

Can you imagine what would happen if all owners in the park in the winter season (1500?) would attend the meetings?
It would take days to finish the meeting if too many people became "activists" and took advantage of their right to speak at the meeting.
We would need to move the meetings to the convention center on the island.
Be careful what you wish for......

See OOOOPPPPS Message above for apology. Leave here early a.m. 12/4 return late p.m. 12/6, Tuesday thru Thursday. Rick

Was anybody else bothered by the LOUD music playing until after 11 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 16th) night? I finally called Security at 11:05 and asked them to do something...shortly after that the music stopped. I realize we have a "Quiet Zone" rule from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. But this has happened SEVERAL times this summer. Maybe I am an old fuddy duddy, but I think the quiet time should start at 10 p.m. There ARE those of us that do not wish to party all night...

Since we have to go begging for a quorum to hold the Annual Meeting (where we have paid for the food to lure them in, oh yes we did, Aramark billed us for those spreads!) We even brought lunch for some renters! The LIV community activist network is rather small. Oh many will talk but few have the courage and conviction to really make anything happen. The attitude seems to be, “Nothing will ever change” “It’s always been that way” (my favorite in the “I have nothing intelligent to add to the debate” category.) From a former BOD member, “The Coffee with Director’s is nothing but a BIT** Session, I haven’t been to one since I got off the BOD”. Don’t get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion and some opinion is better than the majority here who have none and do not want to get involved. Thus we have this huge mass of gossip, ½ truths, mistruths, and spins serving as the frame of reference. SO I DO HOPE I GET WHAT I WISH FOR AND SO MANY OWNERS CARE AND GET INVOLVED THAT WE HOLD PARKING LOT MEETINGS! Better than the apathetic downward spiral of our bylaws and community as well as our resources (which will be propped up with increases in condo fees and assessments.)

The problem with 11PM to 7AM is the sound of jackhammers and construction at 7AM!

I think quiet time was extended to 12 in the summer last year.

The Newsletter should be in the mail and on its way out, but the Sept. 10th deadline to get registered/deposit paid for the San Antonio Trip is coming up fast!
Letters mailed no later than Tuesday of next week will reach Port Isabel, from most points in the U.S., just in time to hang your hat on seat(s) for the premire event of the coming season.
Email to rxrn2@aol.com or a call/message at 956-943-2462 will get the job done.
Thanx again for your indulgence. Rick Contos

I have to clarify several errors indicated above. 1st, only the 9am swim class takes off on Wed during the summer months only. This is for several reasons, there are only a handful of us at the 8am class, several of us also play golf on wed and - yes - if there is a board meeting a few of us go. The wed golf was changed by way of railroad more than desire based on the desire of "one" person. As with the 8am swim (the other two classes are available all week and do not take wed off) there are only a handful of us that play during the summer. Many of those same women who were basically told play would be changed have voiced their opinion and are now back playing on wed. The sad part of the situation is that this one person pushing for change was there on tues only a few times. There is nothing holding anyone from going to a wed meeting. Ditto to the comment regarding "pick your priorities". No one is holding you back or chaining you to a chair. But pls stop trying to amend everyones schedule just so the needs of one person can be met.

Amen to that

Last call for the Bus to San Antonio.
The deposits are being turned in tomorrow at 1 p.m. and a simple call to 943-2462 or 299-0004 will hold you a place.
Only about 10 total seats left, River tour and Main Floor Seats for Peter Pan are locked in!
Thanx for the great participation, LIV. Rick Contos

The above post comes from the post-truth era, much like we are seeing on the political scene. Anyone can FACT check this for themselves, does the LIV walkers classes meet on Wed? No, why? The leader states it is due to BOD meetings, as was the case with the 9AM swim class the last time we checked, we were not told it was summer only. Having checked the petition for the request to change the BOD meeting day from Wednesday, there were 10 or so signatures from WOMEN golfers, when that did not pass these same women decided in June to support the RADICAL notion that the only sanctioned woman’s golf day NOT be scheduled on BOD days. This was the majority decision of the women golfers at that time, some did not care. SEVERAL of the women (they might even post a comment stating the truth of this FACT) spoke to golf committee members, negotiated for a week or more with the committee and the committee decided to change Ladies Golf Day to Tuesday until October when all women golfers would vote. This is also easy to FACT check, ask the golf committee. Suddenly without notice we hear the day was changed back to Wed., Tues signs were gone and no Wed. sign posted, so much confusion arose. Some of us heard the announcement at a weekend scramble from a woman who has NOT played on woman's day and was NOT at the Woman's Day on Tues when we all agreed to meet next Tues so as not to undo what they committee signs said and go with the vote in Oct of all women. Such silly power struggles only serve to make the women golfers look foolish! The desire to have the Women’s Golf Day NOT on BOD meeting day, came from women who felt it was unfair that with over 50% of the USA being female and many single women in the Village, having a conflict with the meeting day of our governing body was not fair. I suppose there are those who think this is a silly feminist view but those of us who care about politics and our community do not see it as a trivial issue. Apparently those who want it on Wed, such as one woman who rarely plays on Woman’s Day, have no interest in women’s issues of equality but only in being a divisive element or engaged in some power struggle with the women who support the issue. I have heard comments like , well do you want men’s Tues scramble to be on Wed, then they will have to miss the BOD meetings, well all women golf days are Wed,( SPI women golf on Monday!). The same people who criticize those who do not want to miss BOD meetings, want it on Wed so they don’t miss swim class, priorities, really? Freedom of speech is great but should be tempered with individual responsibility to present truthful comments.

Thanks for putting this together for us, looks like a fun time!

I am one of the GROUP of women who supported the change of Lady's Golf Day to any other day but the BOD meeting day. It was the golf committee that decided Tues was the best day. It is the right thing to do and the majority of women voted for it in June and all who supportrd the change came on Tuesdays!

Anonymous said...

How about we drop this issue and you go to the meeting.

Anonymous said...

How insulting to the Lady Golfers that you think ONE person can make us change the day, we discussed it, we voted on it and it is what WE wanted! Shame on the person who thinks we are so weak willed!

Anonymous said...

To the person who wants to "drop the issue and..."
No one is "chaining you to a chair" if you don't want to discuss it TRUTHFULLY, don't but some of us are tired of the tactic of discrediting people with false information whenever someone seeks change, you are clearly part of the status quo who are benefiting from people NOT attending meetings and being informed of what is really going on in the community.

run the golf course out of the grill by flipping the nines. start number one on the current number 10. that way it can be monitored by the grill employee. the grill could stay open for beer and dogs or burgers during the summer and close the poolside grill. then everyone can have a air conditioned place to eat. golfers would sign in at the grill before playing.

After reading all the vitriolic comments, I hope to set the record straight and to answer all the false assumptions many people seem to believe.
1. The Board of Directors is exclusively responsible for the successful operation of the park. Their duty is to determine policies for the day to day operation of LIV. They choose to hire a management company to manage the day to day operations under their policies. The management company, (Aramark) as an entity does not operate the LIV. They send several individuals for the Board to interview and choose one as manager. The Board provides direction for the manager and should provide him with written expectations on which he should be evaluated.
2. This park is unique in that we all own our lots and a part of the common areas. Therefore, all of us are responsible for our community. Just because we have a manager does not mean he is solely to blame for everything that goes on or does not go on. As we assume a role in volunteering whether it is in keeping the golf course successful, in following the regulations in/at the swimming pool, the tennis courts, etc., our efforts reflect our commitment and our pride in our community. Constantly finding fault with the manager and each other tears down our self respect. When accusing someone of stealing money or mismanagement these accusations should be accompanied with hard evidence. When making complaints also a reasonable solution should be offered. Character assassination has no place in the park. As primarily senior citizens we exhibit a vast amount of hate. That is so sad when we should be enjoying our park and each other.
3. When each of us bought our property here the amenities were here, we knew the bridge would require maintenance, the golf course would charge fees, the swimming pool and tennis courts would be free to everyone. We also knew the roads, grounds, and infrastructure would require maintenance. All of this requires money so as prices and wages increased and are still increasing, it was and is obvious that our association fees and assessments will increase.
4. Yes, there are two(2) sets of books. LIV business is accounted for through ‘Quicken Books’ which are adequate for our single business. Aramark, a world wide company requires reporting of information in a more complicated form. Therefore, there is a set for accounting to Aramark. Both sets of books are available to the Board of Directors to scrutinize. Three audits are conducted by CPAs each year. One by an auditor hired by LIV, one an auditor for Aramark, and one from our insurance company. So far we have received exemplary commendations for how we handle our money.
5. Now the Village Grill. When we decided to keep the grill private and not allow the public in, we knew the grill would not make money. In fact, after reading the blog comments, it seems not making money was a major complaint. We are not a profit making enterprise. Our major concern is to keep our losses as low as possible while we continue to enjoy life in our semi-tropical environment.
Forgive me for preaching, but the tone and comments on this blog disturbed me. I felt compelled to respond. Let’s try to be kind to one another even as we have differing opinions and let’s all work toward a compatible responsible community.

We paid a 40% Concession Fee of Gross Revenue to Aramark of which includes all Beer and Wine from not only the Restaurant, but Pro shop and/or any other place in the resort. With 45% FC & 60% labor, you do the Math, hope this does not disturb you. We also pay 7.3% for Aramark covering Workmen's Comp & Insurance. That is 7.3% of total payroll which annually is 60K. With the Mgt. Fee of 105K, plus 189K for management not including benefits, again folks you do the Math! We are being taken, let's all work toward a compatible responsible community. So for owners who think this is good pay attention the Facts Please. Condo Fee's go up & up because of all these cost that most Owner's are not aware of, so be a responsible community and take off the blinder's.

Aramark credits back to LIV the fees for the concession fees!

Why hasn’t the Board of Directors issued violations to all residents who are in violation of the amendments and covenants? It is time to put up or shout up BOD and enforce these rules or take them to a vote by all owners at the annual meeting in March to eliminate Article 7 and others you have selected to NOT enforce! But you will need 75% and from recent meetings you know you won’t have the vote and may have to stop your personal gain at all of our EXPENSE! Conjecture is that since they are personally in violation they want to keep saying that Ramona, our lawyer, doesn’t think we will win, so let’s just not enforce the PARTICULAR rules that benefit our personal pockets and interests. That is NOT community service which these same directors bemoan is so difficult, who do they think they are kidding! They are on the BOD to secure their continued abuse of the rules and owners. They profit personally as we all have our condo fees raised and pay special assessments. How much income are WE loosing each year we don’t have ALL the rental business? So ask them folks, unless you also benefit personally by their business and if so, well shame on you!

LIV BOD and Officer ETHICS

I have heard rumors for years about the Directors and Officers getting FREE trips and other perks from Aramark.

Since they vote on the contract with Aramark only an idiot would not think this to be a conflict of interest to all of us owners.

Please anyone with more info please chime in.

I want to ask each member of the BOD and the Officers to list what was offered and or taken by them and by who at Aramark.

We are view by Aramark as bunch of foolish stupit old folks who are too busy fighting over chicken nite and stage light switches to watch our BOD.
