They’re Baaack!

Reta Priest, Pat Burke, and Catherine DeMalade have spewed COOL gang rhetoric as far back as 2008. They along their cronies supported a Reta Priest lawsuit that stopped Ed McBride and five other Directors from replacing Catherine DeMalade’s husband who at that time was GM. Apparent results from this lawsuit to Village owners, a  lost of tens of thousands of dollars and years of acrimony, why, so Catherine DeMalade’s husband could abruptly retire months later.
At May’s Coffee the COOL gang seemed to once again take aim at Director McBride and orchestrated an unbelievable polemic show that started with a “Suggestion Box “comment that read there's a person (unnamed) in our Park illegally operating a rental business.
The next comment spoke on hearsay and wanted action against Director McBride. As if scripted the COOL seemed to sequentially vilified Director McBride and his wife with a great deal of innuendoes, half-truths, and hearsay.
Catherine DeMalade accused him of rental solicitation and providing his wife with LIV’s rental pool records. She demanded he immediately step down  and counseled any on the Board who side with him to do the same.
Reta Priest must have forgot about her 2008 lawsuit when writing her comment accusing the McBride’s of putting a financial burden on the Village. She even found room to say our recent condo fee increases were the McBride’s fault.
Ms. Burke piped in some legal jargon.
After the onslaught subsided Director McBride said it was no secret when elected he was helping his wife with her rental business and considered this nothing more than a personal vendetta.
In response Catherine DeMalade told McBride that after your re-election my husband and I gave you a fresh start and have nothing personal against you. This drew laughs from the audience which seemed to upset DeMalade’s husband because he turned around and took issue with the person sitting next to me that was laughing.
One week later
We have learned that the Realtor who originally questioned the legitimacy of Mrs. McBride's business has contacted the officials who oversee such so we will know later how much water these concerns hold.
Our Board displayed at the May’s Regular meeting they were not captive by the gang’s methodology. President Chapa made it clear this McBride issue was not a board issue and as for a possible conflict of interest Director McBride will be kept from being involved with any conversation, committee, or vote pertaining to rental policy issues.

Here we go...threats, innuendos and lies. The McBrides only provide a service that was needed. The rental office has always done a poor job--I had mine in the rental pool for years and it NEVER got rented, but things were missing. Who would pay 35%? I believe when the facts come out--and they will--an apology will be due the McBrides. We know there isn't enough class among all the "cool" group to offer one.

Only provided a service? Really??? No one sees a "serious" conflict of interest here. Frist, the mgmt company is contracated to have sole control of rentals, (breach of contract) Second, the McBrides are bascially taking money from the pockets of all owners. (as are the others in the rental business. Third, Mr McBride, as a board member, is in direct competition with the very entity he has been entrusted to protect. As a board member I would expect each to have a higher level of integrety. I didn't see any mention of the comments by the gentleman who was an ethics officer for large corporations who verified the issue of conflict of interest. I don't think the McBrides acted with malice. There is plenty of blame to go around. The mgmt company should have noticed the decrease in rental properties and followed up with any problems and the prior boards should have put a stop to it before it reached this point. He has been "elected" simply because it is tough not to be when there are the same number of people running as there are open positions. The board has yet again moved to a "feel" good position instead of tackling a tough situation. All business operations within the park should receive an official notice to discontinue the practice. If you want to run a business do it outside the park.

As a board member it was his (McBride) responsibility to "look into and fix" any problems that might be occurring rather than take advantage of a situation to line his pockets.

I find it interesting that the "gang" as they are referred to spew rhetoric when those on the "other" side are sensible. 2008, give us a break, let it go. Any board member, past - present and future- is responsible for the success of the park and responsible for making any necessary corrections. It just so happens that the McBrides saw an opening and opportunity, tossed any responsibility out the window and took it. It doesn't make them bad people, just opportunitits.

I agree that all the Directors should be held to a high standard of ethics--we should start now. Past boards have allowed numerous wrongdoings and it's time to stop. I agree with the suggestion to send all businesses in the park a letter to stop immediately.

The rental office should have closed 6+ years ago and would have except for Pat Burke's "fuzzy math" and help from certain BOD members. Close it now and stop throwing good money after bad! You can make all the rules you want about owners not renting their own property and it won't stop the practice. Hire a rental management company who works out of the office, follows the LIV rules and pays a fee back to LIV. This company pays for their own employees. It could be the McBrides (who have a vested interest in LIV) or an outsider. Maybe not the perfect idea, but better than what we have now with the so called Rental Office. Maybe Ockham's razor applies.

Having an owner operate a business out of the offcie is like having a manager live in the village, just doesn't work. The McBrides are not hurting anyone ,leave them alone.
Let Ed do his job on the BOD and if you are not happy run against him when his term is up.
If you have to target someone go after our narrow minded president who places himself on a pedestal and runs a dictatorship.Sad day for LIV when he became president.

I'm sorry, I guess I need a clarification of what the board's "job" is exactly. I was always under the impression that the responsibility of any type of board of directors was to look after the best interest of the company or organization they represent, in this case the village. That includes "all" aspects of the community, not just the pieces that make you feel or look good. In any other situation, such as in the corporate world or on a charitable organization Ed's action would have resulted in his immediate removal from the board. No one is "targeting" him, these are actions he has brought on himself. Any other individual in this situation would be treated the same.

In response to the "I'm sorry, I guess..." posting:

AMEN brother!

And I am NOT one of the "cool" people. Wrong is wrong.

Excellent post! I hope you don't work and can run for the BOD, we need people like you!

Anonymous said...

AMEN! It's a no brainer, right? Why did he get away with this?

Anonymous said...

I think the absence of morals and ethics makes you a bad person.

Anonymous said...

Right, how do we make this happen?

Anonymous said...

YES! Plain and simple, so how do we make the BOD realize this and make him step down? AND we need to do as others have posted," send all businesses in the park a letter to stop immediately."
