JULY 27, 2011 BOARD MEETING
Pledge of Allegiance
Owners Speaking
Lot 145 owner who had demonstrated what changes he could make to the Village website said he was not looking for a job. He said he would help when he could.
Lot 702 expressed concerns about President Montalvo being absent during non-official Coffee Meetings and wanted him to address the attitude of his children. This lot owner wamted him to deal with his kids, suggested he resign, and then asked for a response. President Montalvo dealt with this lot owner like a Governor Christie. He quickly responded saying Directors have no attendance obligations to these Coffee meetings. When I ran for the Board I made it clear to everyone I was not in favor of these meetings and would probably not attend many of them. As far as my children, I have not received any complaints prior to yours and wish to ask you (lot owner) if this incident involving my children involved you? The lot owner said no. President Montalvo said I have not received filed complaint about my children from Security. This Board has stressed to owners if anyone gets out of line that they need to call security. When President Montalvo continued the meeting, this lot owner objected. Montalvo said I allowed you to have your say and addressed both, next item.
President’s Remarks section had President Montalvo saying he heard good things said about our Village and thanked everyone for their patience this summer.
Manager’s Report was postponed due to the manager having to meet with the family of an owner who just passed away.
Minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s Report had Director Sandberg bringing up a time lapse problem on the figures. It was suggested that in the future a line item be added to show accounting from the Board meeting to the end of that month.
Mayprofit and loss report showed the Village Grill and Golf course had doubled their losses from a year ago. The Rental Dept. lost 25% more. $8,500 has to be added to the cost of the Rec. Hall roof repair because of a bad beam. This roof repair will now cost $68,500.
Committee Report
DE has a fishing tournament on Aug. 20th and the Adult Pool Olympics on Aug. 27th.
Golf had no report.
Pool will have some chairs replaced this winter.
Safety section addressed our Village dust problem which is apparently five times worse than normal due to the construction of the new nature reserve.
It was noted that the bridge employees did a fine job on a recent major repair.
Unfinished Business
Web Site will have continued discussions.
Pool Equipment was addressed by Director Chapa. He said when Berry Pools remove their chlorinators; the replacement chlorinators will cost approximately $650. He can also save the Park about $50 a month on pool chemicals. Dir. Chapa talked on converting to salt generators. Using this machine would convert salt that's in the water to chlorine. This basicly would eliminate the costs of chemicals. Cost for each generator (5) will range around $1700. It was noted that without having to now pay Berry Pools $1300 for their useless services and buy their overpriced chemicals, the investment in these salt generators could be recouped in less than six months and it would feel like swimming in soft silky water.
Motion passed to give Berry Pools their 30 day notice and approve Dir. Chapa to acquire the replacement chlorinators. A second motion passed to install one salt generator.
Exercise Room Expansion section saw a motion pass to move all treadmills into the clogging room across the hall.
Pool Shades section announced that these shades did not look right and there is a need for more thought. Dir. Guerra expressed his concern that the $225 additional amount was not approved by the Board. The minutes will be reviewed.
New Business
Indoor Pool Use by adults from 9pm to 11pm had lengthy discussions, primarily on what is an adult age. Office Phone System motion was passed for a 24 month open end AT-T lease agreement at a total payment cost of around $7900 and a $1 or fair market value purchase option at the end of the lease.
Boat Trailer Parking motion passed to give Security the authority to attach tongue locks to illegally parked trailers.
Other
The Security Supervisor talked about implementing different security procedures and mentioned the additional guard being used at busy times.
The Board expressed confusion over if a golf cart operator must be licensed or be accompanied by licensed person. Minutes will again be reviewed.
It was asked if there is still a rule on checking out the balls and cues for the billard room.

I'm not sure what meeting you attended but that's not what I heard from lot 702. First, she indicated it was an e-mail which tells me it was a private communication. He obviously chose to ignore her, but did bring it to the coffee he attended waving it around and commenting on it. Nobody knew what he was talking about. I think she's pretty new here and maybe wasn't aware that his absence was Ok'd beforehand. He could have used some common sense and responded any number of ways to her e-mail and the topic would have been closed. It seems he's the one that decided to make it a public issue. Yes, the coffees are "unofficial" but you have to admit they do a lot of work there and he can't possibly be up on all the issues. She only "suggested" he consider resignation if he could no longer meet his obligations. She didn't ask him to address his kids; she left that part of the e-mail out and didn't read it. I have talked to her since the meeting and she was only bringing the actions to his attention. Why make it a major issue by calling security when maybe the parents don't know about it. I know people have talked to me about my kids when they were young and I appreciated it when they brought something to my attention that I could then deal with privately. She was giving him that option. She wasn't demanding an explanation. Chris Christie ppplllleeeease...... He just flat and rudely cut her off like he seems to do when there's a situation he doesn't want to deal with or agree with. This whole thing could have been avoided if he had his thinking cap on and shown her the courtesy of a quick response. If he has this much trouble dealing with something as minor as this how does he handle somethign major. Leadership indeed.
You know in the business world there is a theory called resonable expectations. These coffees have been going on for how long?? There's also a set pattern. We have a resonable expectation that the coffee will take place and a resonable expectation that all board members will be there, not half, not most but all. So, while the coffee meeting might be in writing or considered "offical", there is a resonable expectation.
Another business theory is the need for "planned abandonment". Businesses and governments have a natural human tendency to cling to "yesterday's successes" rather than seeing when they are no longer useful. How useful are the Coffee Meetings really?
Valid point, but I think planned abandonment takes more than one person out of a group. If the majority of the members want to discontinue to event, then it should be discontinued. I think the coffees are useful and productive 95% of the time, otherwise we'll be spending four, five or six hours at the board meeting unless the board just takes over without any input from the residents. And, I don't think that's very likely.
If you think that there are rumor mills in LIV now, do away with the Coffee and see what havoc will be let loose.
We have lost a great cook in the Grill because unthinking JERKS jumped all over her re: Julio Martinez and the elimination of the Hospitality Manager Position by the BOARD!
These are the same clowns that damage our relationships with the Post Office and anything else they can go off HALFCOCKED on!
It is an undeniable fact that some residents of LIV are still "Trailer court dwellers" even tho the village has progressed way beyond that level.
The gate was left open, in my opinion, when lots went to 8000.00 during the Savings and Loan/RTC mess and cheap real estate was bought by "cheap" thinking owners and the results are still being felt by those who are here to enjoy the facility.
The only solution I see, is time and natural attrition will acount for some of this problem. Amen
Here's an idea! Let’s cut the board members wages in half if they don’t show up for a coffee & double their wages if they do! Problem solved!
I don't understand what the big deal with attendence of the coffee is. We have had many BOD who missed coffees but we are attacking Mr Montalvo. He is doing a great job . The coffee is just a big bitch session that could be eliminated.
A great job? You think someone who seems to think with their hormones and not their head is doing a great job. There were some valid points made and he could have simply shown a little common courtesy and answered the e-mail. Case closed. Instead he got his knickers in a knot, wore his pride on his sleeve and appeared to be defensive. It's not that he missed coffees, he's missed practically all the coffees. The coffees may be a bitch session but the workshops aren't and that should set the agenda for the board meeting. How can he be up-to-date when he's not active in the workshops?
Come on treehugger, be nice. Maybe there are some things going on behind the scenes that we're not aware of. "Trailer court dwellers" can be found in all income levels and it's more of an attitude than anything else, like being unable to express yourself without being hateful or derogatory. But, if there's too many of us low brows here for your taste there are many, many, many communities across the country that I'm sure would welcome your presence.
Not to worry.....the attacks on Mr. Montalvo, are coming from (big surprise!!) RP & her dwindling group of trouble makers trying to stir things up once again.
Let"s not forget our roots. This "Village" started many years ago as a trailer park. A real one with real trailers on wheels. We may have added some makeup in the form of cottages and stick homes but fancy duds does not the person make. Our little piece of paradise may have wheels tucked under it but that does not change our personality. Regardless of the nasty crabby "old" attitudes, we will always be respectful of our neighbors and we appreciate the service of those on the Board to have at heart the best interest of this "trailer park".
Wrong again. I know owner 702 and she knows RP slightly. So, blaming "that group" as you put it is somewhat unfair. RP had nothing to with it and frankly no one would have been made aware of her concerns if the "pres" had simply taken the time to respond which only validates the point that he doesn't seem to care about what the residents have to say. She has her own mind and doesn't follow the lead of others. And it wasn't an attack, she was questioning his absence. For crying out loud, all he had to do was respond to the e-mail and all this hoop-la would have been avoided.....
OK enough already. Maybe the owner of this blog will let me have a minute. I'm lot 702. First I was not "attacking" anyone. I was asking questions. I make my own decisions and don't go through anyone for clearance. So, RP (I'm assuming you mean Rita) had nothing to do with it, didn't know about it and won't have anything to do with my decisions or comments. I have, on occasion, had conversations with RP where I defended the board. I sent a private note to Montalvo, when he didn't respond he forced my hand and I had to ask publicly. I would be happy to have a discussion with anyone that's interested in hearing the truth rather than listening to rumors and making assumptions.
This all reads the same writer... go write a book please!
Looks like Treehugger hit a nerve.
There is no need, human or in the realm of attainment, that requires us to hold to the "status quo".
Why not progress beyond where we were in 1985? I believe the saying is "Upwards and Onwards" not "Horizontal and Static"!
Additional comment: The Winter Texans will be thrilled to find out all the "crap" in LIV originates with that group and the summer/365 folks are wonderful, kind, gentle, understanding,et.
Question: need I go on? I don't think so!
Did we ever get rid of Berry Pools and if not why?
